meet Dr. Richard Rubenstein

Dr. Richard Rubenstein, Ph.D., C.Psych., is a clinical and school psychologist licensed by the College of Psychologists of Ontario (#6219).  

He practices a client-centered therapeutic approach that integrates several modalities, including attachment-based psychotherapy, psychodynamic play therapy, relational child psychotherapy, and cognitive-behavioural therapy, according to the unique experiences and circumstances of every child. He prioritizes creating a warm, safe, and compassionate environment for the young people he works with and their loved ones.

Dr. Rubenstein obtained his doctorate in School and Clinical Child Psychology from the University of Toronto. He has extensive training and experience working with children, adolescents, and their families in various clinical, school, and hospital settings in the Greater Toronto Area, including the Hincks-Dellcrest Centre, Trillium Health Partners-Mississauga Hospital, and the Toronto District School Board.

Psychological / Psychoeducational Assessments

Dr. Rubenstein specializes in the assessment of cognitive, behavioural and learning issues that may interfere with a child or youth’s academic functioning as well as their social and emotional wellbeing, including Learning Disabilities, Attention-Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Executive Functioning Problems, as well as Anxiety and Mood concerns. He also offers testing for Giftedness.


Individual Therapy

Dr. Rubenstein offers individual psychotherapy for children and adolescents, and in consultation with their families. Children, youth and their families are interviewed around their individual concerns and a personalized course of treatment is prescribed. Therapy methods will vary depending on the problem and treatment goals to be addressed.


Parent Consultation

Dr. Rubenstein also specializes in assisting parents with various concerns related to raising their children, including problems with attachment / relational difficulties and behaviour management.

Dr. Rubenstein’s office is located at 505 Eglinton Avenue West, Suite 403, on the corner of Tarlton Rd (between Avenue Rd and Spadina Rd) and is easily accessible by public transit. For those coming by car, ample metered street parking is available. There is also a Green P parking lot across the street behind the shops on the north side of Eglinton Avenue.
